About the Salon
Located in a renovated Nickelodeon theater in historic downtown Sewickley, Pennsylvania is Sean's Signature Salon and Spa. Sean's is located in the center of downtown and is convenient to shopping, dining, and parking. Sean's is currently opened a boutique called Razzle * Dazzle, in the Nickelodeon Mall, which provides imported fragrances, Sean's own cosmetic line called Magnetism Cosmetics.Com, skin care, Italian glassware, hand made jewelry, hand bags, and many gifts for children, teens, men and women.

The history of Sean's Signature Salon and Spa is one of growth and prestige. Sean Kowalski, Hair Stylist and Owner created a concept on November 7, 1996 when he decided to open a salon. Sean wanted a place where customers could receive exceptional service and where hair designers could work in a stress-less environment. Sean and Tim Garland, co-owner, opened Sean's on the second floor of the Nickelodeon Mall in a 1500 square foot suite. Hard wood floors, large windows allowing vast amounts of natural light, pristine white walls, hand laid tile, and large baroque mirrors created an environment of a salon as if it were located on Fifth Avenue in New York. Sean, who designed the space, wanted a salon like no other in the Pittsburgh area. The salon at the time had a make-up area, three hair stations and a beautiful reception area.

History is in the making here -- so when a space across the hall became available, Sean and Tim decided to add Massage services. "One stop shopping" was the idea; they wanted to create a place where their guests could receive every service. Soon to follow a manicurist was hired and a Spa environment was on its way. In early 1997 an Apprentice Program was established. Sean and Tim wanted a staff that would be committed to the vision and concepts of the salon. They were not going to just hire anyone. These employees had to be trained properly in every aspect of a salon business and it takes at least one year to complete the program. Today the fifth protege is starting the program and it can be proudly said that there is a lasting relationship between Sean's Signature Salon and Spa and it's employees.

Sean and Tim always believed that community service was the key to a successful business. They set out to show the community of Sewickley that they were committed to making their business successful. They began to donate hair services and make-up to all the local high school plays. Soon they became the official hair salon for the Upstairs Theater in Pittsburgh. Sean created a fashion show called "Fashions for Hope" to benefit the Sewickley Chamber of Commerce and Girls Hope. Sean and Tim have also made donations to many charities in the area and do community speaking at least twice a month to civic organizations in the Pittsburgh area.

Sean who has had many accolades in his career received another about this time. Sean was chosen by Wella International to train in Europe. He attended training in London under the artistic guidance of Mahogany with 30 other guests from around the world. The next year he was invited again to cruise to Bermuda and was provided training by the Doves, another of the industries top professionals.

In the spring of 1998 the two areas of the salon were combined to create the space today. The 3200 square foot facility consists of a facial room with furniture imported from Bali. A massage room with heavy velvet draperies and a ceiling painted to look like the sky at dusk. The rooms are connected by a Cranberry room known as the "Cafe" where guest are treated to lunch that is catered by the Victorian Tea Parlor located near by. The lunch consists of a three-tier service with finger sandwiches, scones, soups, herbal teas, and many more hand made treats.

A soft yellow welcomes you in the Concierge Area with a state of the art computer system to accommodate all of the guest's appointments and services. The hard wood floors lead you to a contemporary makeup and nail area. From this area you enter the Salon. Still with gold baroque mirrors this space now accommodates room for six or more hair designers and specialized colorist. From this space you enter a smaller room accommodating a Pedicure Throne with a whirlpool bath and a self-massaging chair covered in Leopard print fabric. The walls of the entire salon and spa are loaded with art provided by a local gallery. The art consist of many Cuban and Russian artists such as Kaplan. The pieces are for sale, through the gallery, and do change often.

The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the facility is beautiful. We pride ourselves on the return of our many, many guests. We provided "Service with a Style!" Visit soon and often!
